Chapter 4

Chapter 4 :

Anvaya's POV

"Was it good?" Nitya asked, as soon as I stepped inside the room.

"Yeah, kind of," I muttered, feeling the initial frustration and anger slowly seeping out of my body.

The room was buzzing with other doctors, busy chatting and some with their tasks. Taking a seat near the window, I let Nitya accompany me before we both looked outside.

Mumbai was buzzing with peopleโ€”most rushing to somewhere official, some shooting and filming, some foreigners mingling with the locals and rest in search of a destiny. Cars after cars were running on the road, letting the air buzz with their sounds.

The sun was over the head, shining brightly over the sea underneath and to me, that was the only beautiful view to see in such a populated city.

"Now explain your kind of," she said, looking at me.

I didn't move my gaze away from the sea, as I replied, "He is calculative, and thinks twice before speaking. He's quiet most of the time and doesn't take any advice directly. It's usually because he always thinks he's right."

My voice was normal and calm.

Nitya didn't utter anything, and just kept staring at me, making me look at her.

I raised my brows, "What?"

"Why don't you directly say that he's egoistic and a narcissist? So full of himself to listen to anyone," she replied after a long pause, looking at me in disbelief.

My eyes widened, as I quickly looked around us to find no one looking at us. I sighed in relief. Had someone heard us, this woman would've put us on permanent leave.

I glared at her, as I gritted, "We're in his building, with people around us who might hear you. Can't you keep your tongue rolled in outside home?"

She rolled her eyes, "Shut up. He was being one so I said that. Why were you even putting those two damn words in such an elaborated essay? Did you develop some crush on him?"

I scoffed, "Don't be delusional. Iโ€”" my words were cut off by the HOD's sudden voice, "Ms Shaurya."

Standing up, I faced her, "Yes ma'am?"

"How was Mr Oberoi's check-up?"

"It was good. His heart health is good, he just needs a few changes for improvement in his daily routine," I replied, remembering the way I was tolerating his egoistic ass, while suggesting solely for his benefits.

"I don't go for hypotheticals"โ€”I internally mimicked.

She nodded, "The review will come by evening. You'll receive it in your e-mail," saying, she patted on my shoulders with a smile and left the room.

Her smile confused me.

Turning around, I went over to Nitya, as she questioned, "What did she say?"

"About the review I'll get from

Mr Oberoi by today evening," I replied, looking into her eyes.

Her eyes widened, "Today evening?"

I nodded.

"I hope he won't put up some rude ass comment because of his ego", she gritted, as I chuckled at her words.

Shaking my head, we both went outside to have lunch.

8:30 p.m.

I returned home with Nitya, late in the evening. As today was the last day of the campaign, we were assigned many tasks and had to wrap up too. So time ticked and we didn't even realise until it was past 7.

Thankfully, Nyx Solutions offered a luxurious dinner with them. And I was really starved so I and Nitya ate shamelessly.

Taking off my sandals near the shoe rack in the verandah, I got inside, followed by Nitya.

Slumping down on the sofa, I heaved out a loud sigh of exhaustion, closing my eyes which were aching now.

"You look dead," came Mimi's voice.

"Anvaya looks dead but what's with you Nitya? Why you look so bright?" Mimi asked again. She noticed the different glow on Nitya's face.

Anyone would when she actually got what she had targetted.

"She's found a guy there," I muttered, still lying like a corpse.

Nitya really deserved appreciation for pulling the guy she talked about to me on the first day. He was a nice one, so I didn't protest against her decision.

"What the heck? When and how? You guys didn't even bother to tell me?" Mimi yelled, making me hiss and sit up on the sofa.

I glared at her, feeling the intensity of her voice now banging inside my head, "Stop yelling. I, myself, didn't know that she was going to get him. You know that she looks at every other good looking guy out there. So I thought it was unserious but who knew that she was already cooking something in that brain," I explained everything, side eyeing my other bestfriend, who was busy chatting with her boyfriend.

"Damn! This girl is really something," exclaimed Mimi, chuckling at her.

"So," she said again, now looking at me, "What about you?"

I frowned, "What about me?"

"Woman! I and Nitya are committed already. What about you now? Are you dying single?" she asked, settling down on the adjacent couch, with a serious expression, as if the question was too important to ignore.

"And virgin," Nitya interrupted, placing her phone on the couch, before looking at me with a teasing smile.

I threw a look of disbelief at them, "Stop talking like that. You know what my answer will be. Don't you get tired questioning the same thing over and over again?"

I was really not surprised at how both of them managed to ask me the same thing when they exactly knew what I was going to reply. Even though it was funny to them, I would get irritated.

In a generation of red flags, they were the lucky ones to have their green flag boyfriends but I was sent like this. So I guess, I accepted it.

Getting up from the sofa, I made my way inside, ignoring their questions and chats directed at me.

Such annoying asses.

I first took a bath and then sat down on my bed.

There were three moderate sized rooms for three of us, so we had our privacy. It was good in the sense that they'd at least spare me some peaceโ€”without talking about me getting a guy.

Opening my laptop, I turned it on and decided to check the e-mail.

My thoughts went back to Mr Oberoi, while my laptop loaded before starting.

He was good looking and I won't deny that. He was like the typical heartthrob CEO of a company. And like the male characters in books, he was cold and rude.

But unlike in books, where the rude and cold CEO's looked hot and good, Mr Oberoi was exactly the opposite. He was intolerable but I guess, I'll be meeting people like him more in my life.

Just as the laptop was ready, I connected it to the wifi and opened my e-mail.

The very first e-mail wasn't from our hospital, surprisingly.

It was from Nyx Solutions.

Why'd they send me an e-mail?

I didn't open it, because my gaze fell on the second e-mail, which was from the hospital.

It read like any other normal appreciation e-mail. The seniors were content with my performance. And the way they were appreciating my way of handling the check-up of Mr Oberoi professionally, made me feel proud, relieved and suspicious at the same time.

I felt proud because I did it, relieved because no negative review was given and suspicious because he didn't look like one to give totally positive reviews.

But who cares when it's all beneficial to me?

Then I opened the e-mail from Nyx Solutions.

The first paragraph was for appreciation. They appreciated the way I carried on the check-up without any misbehaviour. Of course, I didn't blast so I had to be appreciated. I indeed had high tolerance.

The second paragraph started with them believing that good health is really important and that we need to manage our daily routine to have a healthy life.

But from the middle part of the paragraph, everything took a turn.

There they had writtenโ€”

Therefore, we'd be pleased to request your continued support and care by overseeing his heart health every month, from now onwards. Your discretion and professionalism are what we're expecting to exactly find in the medical consultation.

The fuck.

They want me to do his monthly heart health check-up? Seriously?

Today's just fifteen minutes with him were frustrating and now they were dumping that egoistic burden on me now? Were they serious?

"The fucking hell," I yelled, feeling frustrated, as I kept down the laptop on the bed.

My room's door burst open, revealing Nitya and Mimi, as they looked at me, concerned.

"What happened Ani? Why were you yelling?" Mimi asked, nearing me.

"Nyx Solutions wants me to carry out monthly check-ups of their CEO," I whined, feeling frustrated more than the meeting with him.

"So? Why are you frustrated about it?"

"It's because he's egoistic and a narcissist," Nitya replied nonchalantly, as she already knew how I'd react to such a request.

"I thought he was good."

"He's good in everything except for behaving with a woman," I muttered, staring annoyingly at the laptop screen, now.

"Then reject itโ€”wait!" Mimi cut her own words, before looking back at me from the laptop screen, "Any extra money?"

"Yeah. They've promised to provide extra money for that," I replied.

"Then accept it, Ani. You know our financial situation, so it's good. And the check-up will last for around ten to fifteen minutes. And you can just call him for a check-up and send the reports to his home through someone or just use e-mail. Like that, you won't need to see him and the task will also be done and you'll get money too," Mimi explained slowly, making the situation clear now.

She wasn't entirely wrong.

Actually, she was entirely correct.

I can do that. And I won't have to bear him thirty days a month, it'll just be one day and that too for around a maximum of twenty minutes. Like that I can earn too. And living in Mumbai as a middle class person was like living with financial problems as your roommate.

I remained silent for a few moments, deciding whether I should say yes or no. Because once accepted, I can't turn back.

I nodded, "You're right. I should do that."

Sighs of relief came from their sides, as Nitya spoke up, "You literally woke me up from sleep. I'm tired, you woman," she gritted before walking away from there, annoyed.

Waking up someone tired from their sleep would make them annoyed anyway.

"Okay then, you sleep now and take your time if you want. Just don't do something you'll regret because I don't want to see you regretting everything again," Mimi said, but her tone conveyed something we both knew.

She conveyed something seated deep inside our soul, which was better hidden than talked about again.

I stared into her eyes for a few seconds, before I nodded in positive, as she left.

I pulled up the laptop on my lap, and kept staring at the e-mail for a while.

And after contemplating enough, I agreed. I agreed to check-up on Kaaryaksh Oberoi every month. But I'll earn better so I can take this bother at least.

Closing the laptop, I then decided to sleep.
